While we lack national leadership on climate, Virginia has an opportunity right now to lead the United States to a 100% clean energy future. We know we need a renewable energy economy.
Unfortunately, Virginia’s current plan of 15% by 2025 is not good enough. In Virginia, the effects of climate change would devastate coastal towns from Hampton Roads, to the cities along the Shenandoah Valley, along the water-rich areas in the Tidewater to the dense population areas in Northern Virginia. All of Virginia is at risk from the impacts of climate change.
We’re saying NO to all of these false solutions, and calling for truly renewable and 100% clean energy by 2035. Nothing less.
Addressing climate change requires bold action. That’s why we’re demanding the solutions we need. When passed, the bill will:
Transition Virginia to 100% renewable energy by 2035;
Stop all new major fossil fuel projects and pipelines;
Define renewable energy as solar, wind and geothermal only;
And ensure a just and equitable transition to a clean energy economy that works for everyone.
